First take of building the IGLOO!
In 8B4 this term we are studying the cold and 8B4 wants to learn about Inuits and how igloos are made. Today we did our first take of trying to make an igloo using sugar cubes, icing sugar for the glues and flour and water for the glue. Here are some photos and a little about what we found out.
If you
put too much glue it melts the cubes and they fall over – Jules
If you
make it too big you run out of materials – Thomas
Don’t use
two different strategies – first ours didn’t work out well so we tried a new one
that worked out but it was at the end of the session. – Alex
You have
to be very careful otherwise it will lean over – Rach
The
technique of building it is hard, each of us tried different things, the only
one that worked was our second one. We used the technique of gluing carefully.
Chris
Not too
much glue- Kayla
If you
put the bricks in a pattern like a little T it will work– one brick then two bricks.
Jayden,
Why did
that work? Miss M
It was layered
and made it was stronger because it wasn’t just stacked onto of each other.
Abbey
Mejean
tell us how you created the roof? Miss M
I got
sugar cubes and stuck them into the glue, then I got more until I had five and
glued them together then I stuck them onto the roof. Mejean
I learnt
that if you stick them all up on top of each other they will just come tumbling
down. Chanel
We found
it easier to use them standing up and then have the top ones sitting down. Nic
We all
got pictures in our mind and then did it that way, we worked together. Owen
We found
it hard to curve to igloo – Grace.
